Junior Research Fellow

The Agribusiness Innovation Platform (AIP) was established as an initiative of ICRISAT to enhance the institutional public-private partnerships for furthering the mission of ICRISAT in helping the poor farmers of Semi-Arid Tropics (SAT). The Innovation and Partnership (INP) program under AIP looks at developing strong, collaborative research-cum-development partnerships with public and private sectors, in the areas of plant breeding, agricultural biotechnology, natural resource management, knowledge sharing, training and value chain development, which ultimately benefits the smallholder farmers across the agricultural value chain
The Job
  • To perform scientific research activities related to pre-breeding utilizing wild Cicer species for chickpea improvement under laboratory, greenhouse and field conditions under the supervision of the lead scientist
  • To provide technical help in designing and implementing research experiments
  • To manage and coordinate day-to-day research activities
  • Data collection, and statistical analysis of experimental data
  • Maintain and update electronic databases
  • Assist the scientist in the preparation of technical reports, research articles and other related jobs.
Competencies
  • Good proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Good knowledge in data analysis desirable
  • Good team player and adaptable to working in a multicultural team  
Qualification and Skill Requirement:
  • Post Graduate (M.Sc./M. Tech) in Plant Breeding and Genetics/ Agricultural Biotechnology/Botany from a reputed university with good academic record.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a research institute, university or private sector company
  • Ability to work under field conditions for extended hours
  • Good knowledge of data management methods and ability to use spreadsheets (eg., Excel, MS Access) and statistical software
  • Candidate having hands-on experience in wide hybridization, plant tissue culture techniques and use of molecular markers preferred 
Compensation:
The position is for two year and four months, renewable based on the performance of the incumbent and the Institute’s continuing need for the position. An attractive compensation is offered for the right candidate.
