Department of Biotechnology at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee invites outstanding and enthusiastic researchers for a Walk-in interview for selecting Project JRF position under the mentorship of Dr. Saugata Hazra (Assistant Professor in Biotechnology), focused on ‘Developing novel antimicrobial therapeutics by exploring multi-enzyme targets’. 

The prospective candidate is expected to have a strong background in Protein Purification, Biochemical & Biophysical Techniques (Basic Molecular Biology Enzyme Kinetics, Spectroscopy techniques, Protein Crystallography), and investigation of microbial activities. Candidate should be passionate about working on cutting edge research leading to high impact products and services. Other research activities may include participating in research discussion with collaborating laboratories. The date of interview is August 24, 2017. 

The prospective candidate should have Masters Degree with strong background in Biophysics and Biochemistry (Candidates needed to be qualified through a national Examination like CSIR-NET, GATE etc.) 

Minimum Qualification and Experience: The duration of the fellowship will be of three years. The candidate is expected to join the Department as soon as offer letter has been released. 

The fellow will receive a consolidated fellowship, Duration and Fellowship amount: Rs. 25,000.00 p.m.

Notes: 

(i) The joining fellow will be registered as IIT Roorkee students for availing the facilities of accommodation, hospital, medical insurance scheme, computer centre, library sports, etc. They will also be governed by the leave rules as applicable to the post graduate students. 

(ii) No TA/DA would be provided to the candidates attending the interview. 

A Centre of Biosciences was started in 1980 and upgraded to a full-fledged academic Department of Biosciences and Biotechnology in 1986. It was renamed as the Department of Biotechnology in the year 2002. The department has teaching and research programmes which encompass various basic and applied aspects of modern biotechnology. The main objective of the Department is to provide academic training and conduct research in the interdisciplinary areas of biotechnology with a particular emphasis on extending the knowledge generated from these studies towards the development of technologies of commercial significance. The M.Sc. (Biotechnology) course of the Department is being funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. B.Tech. (Biotechnology) course has been started in 2005. A wide range of sophisticated equipment related to biotechnology has been made operational at IIC as well as at departmental building involving the multidisciplinary faculty of the center.
