PROJECT SUMMARY Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is the leading cause of intellectual disabilities in males and a major monogenic cause of ASD (Autism spectrum disorders). FXS is caused due to the loss of FMR protein (FMRP). FMRPs role in adult neurons is well studied; however its role during embryonic development is not. We have used a novel DNAzyme based approach to create a robust transient larval model of FXS in zebrafish, where ex-vivo development has provided hints on a critical role for FMRP in early development distinct from its role in adult neurons.

The objectives of this study are to create a stable Fmr1 knockout model in Zebrafish using the CRISPR technology and validate our findings from the transient model regarding the novel role of FMRP during early development. Subsequently, we will extend these studies to identify optimal therapeutic windows for existing and novel therapies for more efficacious outcomes.

Qualified and interested candidates may send their curriculum vitae by e-mail to hr@drils.org on or before deadline mention in the subject line of the mail the following code: - FXS Pharmacology, Selected candidates will be called for a personal interview to Dr. Reddy’s Institute of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad Campus, Gachibowli, Hyderabad.

Candidates will not be reimbursed for Travel for the Interview, if short listed.
