Semantic Web India (https://semanticwebindia.com/) is a niche data science firm specializing in data science applications in domain of Life Sciences and Genomics. The company was founded in 2019 and operates from Bangalore and Hyderabad.  

We are currently building a flagship genomics data analysis platform in collaboration with industry and research giants and are looking for bio-informaticians with strong Clinical Genetics exposure, Next Generation Sequencing techniques & related pipelines and extensive experience working with genome sequence data with computing skills background. Additionally, we seek professionals with a passion for biotech research, programming and data sciences. 

Job Title – Scientist (Bio-Informatics) 

As part of this job, you will: 

• 
  

• Drive the functionality of the Genomics Data Analysis Platform in the domain of Clinical Genomics 

• Contribute (in person) to the development and implementation of the platform 

• Demonstrate working proficiency in one or more skills spanning Python programming and Linux OS scripting, Open-Source libraries and tools dealing with FASTQ to VCF generation.  

• Augment / Develop additional knowledge of Web based Application Development, Database Layer, Knowledge Graphs and Genomics Data Science Techniques 

  

Location: Hyderabad (Preferred) and Bangalore 

  

Domain knowledge on the following bio-technology topics is a must for this position – Genomics, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Genetic Diagnostics Methods, Next Generation Sequencing, Variant Annotation Formats, and Clinical Genetics. 

 

Job Description:   

Profile will be part of the core implementation team for building the flagship genomics data analysis platform as part of the company’s Genomics AI vertical. 

  

Technical Qualification:   

5+ years industry experience with a Masters degree / PhD in biotechnology or biological sciences or related pure science with computational skills covering multiple areas given below

 

• Knowledge of Python Programming with high competency 

• Linux OS and scripting 

• Bio-Informatics Pipelines dealing with Next Generation Sequencing Data, generating and analysing VCF data, clinical genomics dealing with prioritizing and reporting variants for different scenarios 

• Cancer Genomic Data Analysis experience - biological and clinical interpretation of cancer genomic data results and associations with response/resistance to therapy, familiarity with cancer databases and tools like COSMIC, GDSC, cBioPortal etc 

• Reasonable working knowledge and / or understanding of common machine learning algorithms for clustering, predicting, mining, classifying and training models in a Genomics Data Science setting will be an added advantage 

 

Non-Technical Qualification: 

• 
  

• Excellent Communication Skills – Verbal and Written 

• Interest and commitment to work on a SaaS platform development in the life sciences / bio-tech domain 

• Keen interest in writing technical research papers / journals and blogs 

• Keen interest and inclination to contribute to engineering activities such as programming, data engineering and computing. 

• Ability to work in a self-motivated environment in smaller teams at the customer site. 

Salary: Comparable to Industry Standard (based on experience and requirements fit)
