IITM Summer Fellowship Programme - 2026

IITM - Summer Fellowship Programme of two months with stipend is designed to enhance awareness and interest in high quality academic research among young Engineering, Management, Sciences and Humanities students through a goal-oriented summer internship undertaken at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.

Eligibility:

Candidates pursuing 3rd year of UG (BE / B.Tech / B.Sc Engg./3-year B.Sc. with Chemistry, Physics & Mathematics) or 3rd or 4th year of Integrated / Dual Degree in Masters Programme (M.E./ M.Tech / M.Sc), 1st year of M.Sc./M.A,/ MBA with outstanding academic background in terms of high ranks in University examinations are encouraged to apply, highlighting their academic performance and achievement including papers presented at seminars, projects executed, design contests participated, score/rank in Mathematics Olympiad and any other awards/distinctions obtained.

[Students from IITs are not eligible to apply].

Period of the Summer Fellowship Programme: The programme is likely to commence from 18th May 2026 to 17th July 2026.

Stipend: A sum of Rs.15000/- per month will be given as stipend for a maximum period of 2 months, prorated for the actual period of internship at IIT Madras.

Hostel: Hostel and Mess facility will be provided on payment basis, subject to availability.

Students should have the following documents (Soft copy) ready for registration

  • Student Recent Passport Size Photo (Max file size 2MB @ File format/ JPEG / PNG)
  • Category Certificate (If applicable) (Max file size 2MB @ File format: PDF)
  • Student Aadhar Card (Max file size 2MB @ File format: PDF)
  • Bonafide: Letter from the Institute: Should certify that you are a bonafide student issued by the Head of Institution (download template of UG / DD Bonafide and PG Bonafide (Max file size 2MB @ File format:PDF)
  • Academic Certificate / Mark sheet starting from 10th, 12th / Polytechnic and all semester mark sheets up to the most recently completed one as a single consolidated PDF (Max file size 2MB @ File format: PDF) 
  • Upload a short Statement of Purpose (not more than one page). Include your areas of scientific interest, potential major project ideas, and any other relevant information for evaluating your candidature.
  • A non-refundable application fee of Rs. 100/- (Mode of payment - Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking or UPI)

Note:

  1. There is no need to send hard copy of the applications to IIT Madras
  2. The submitted application can be viewed in the portal using the username and password sent to your registered email address.
  3. Please ensure that all the relevant data and enclosures are uploaded online
  4. Incomplete applications will be summarily rejected.
  5. Letter from your University / College: Should certify that you are a bonafide student, issued by the Head of Institution.

The portal will be activated on: 02.02.2026.

The Last date for Online Submission: 02.03.2026 at 5.00 p.m.
