  1. Rating universities on the basis of research performance is an excellent. However, in my opinion, rating should be on a regular interval of one to three year. Current rating is based on very long duration (1999-2008) and can never be a true reflection of research performance of an university.

  3. Its fine to have a merit list of universities.may i know who has done this survey and what criteria they have used?.In my opinion the survey has a strong defect in judging the research capacity. In case of biological research Tamilnadu universities are far better than any other universities in India

  6. It would have been better if the rating has been done for a shorter span, say 2005-present. 10 years span is too long...

Is the list based on number of research papers published or on the quality of research works done?

i coughtn't understand this results based on over all performance of university or particularly biology research.if u give results based on particularly biology research quality then its more fine.

  12. Dear Saughat,

I had a lot of experience with Tamilnadu universities.Take the number of papers published in Nature Journals every year especially in biological sciences the contribution of TN universities are high. Many nodal centers for biological sciences are in TN universities only.MKU leads the way for excellence in education and research in Biological sciences.

  13. Very helpful, but like others said:
    Is it only biological subjects?
What is meant by " good" in research, I mean what are the criteria?
Please giv similar lists for technological academia etc.

i studied in university of madras, m.sc in biotechnology 2008 batch and currently doing research in one of best institute in India in delhi , so i had a very clear idea abut TN universities. MKU is an exception but it doesnot publish nature every yr. i keep updated myself regarding publications in NATURE.

number of publication alone doesnt matter. the impact factor and citation index also does matters. v can publish in any journal with out any impact factor but that is not needed for science. so rate with the quality of the paper not the quantity

  18. Dear All,

I think ..Impact factor is only the matter of GOOD RESEARCH.So i felt that manner we have to give the top universities.please reply me any suggestion.I am M.Phil student in MKU Madurai.

This survey is totally misguiding for aspiring life sciences students... IISc has no ranking . PAU is there in rankings but TNAU is not, TNAU( Tamilnadu agri univ) is one of the best universities in asia for biotech research.

And what criterion is used for the rankings?

Please do not post such information for students
    TOTAL RUBBISH .

    Hello Mr. Shamsher Pratap (Anonymous)

List is for Universities not for Institutes. IISc always tops No1 in Research Institutes.

    Read carefully and comment.

There is a link how study has done.

i know so much abt coastal andhra universities. They have good facilities and infra structures but very few only concerning about TRUE RESEARCH.To be frank we need more than RESEARCH for the betterment of our society. The research which fills the gap between institutions and society. i mean if they aiming about a research they should come up with a FINISHED PRODUCT that is called TRUE RESEARCH(its my view only,if i hurt anyone am so sorry to them Sir/Madam)
