Applications are invited from teachers and research scholars of Life Sciences at colleges/universities/institutes for a National Workshop on “ Hands-on Training on Techniques used in Biotechnological Research ” to be held during February 28-March12, 2011 at North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong.

The program will include techniques used in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology such as isolation of DNA and RNA; Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Reverse Transcriptase-PCR; gel electrophoresis, plasmid isolation and transformation; microbial, plant and animal cell/tissue culture; and bioinformatics.  

The fee for the training is Rs.6,000/- for teachers and Rs.3,000/- for research scholars; the total number of participants would be limited to 20 only. 

The last date for receiving the application is November 15, 2010. 

Accommodation shall be made available on request in NEHU Guest House. The organizers will not be able to provide travel grant or waive the registration fee to the participants. The fee may be sent by demand draft of any nationalized bank in favour of “The Program Coordinator, NEHU, Shillong”, payable at Shillong.

Shillong is well connected with Guwahati railway station and airport. Buses, Tata Sumo and taxies (on reserve and shared basis) are available from Guwahati railway station and airport and it takes about 3-4 hours to reach Shillong from Guwahati. The weather in Shillong during February-March is pleasant with temperatures ranging between 15-22°C. Woollens are recommended.
