Prof. Chung , Director of E2FTC research center, invites highly qualified national and international scholars for an E2FTC funded combined MS/PhD and PhD graduate program starting March 1, 2011at Myongji University in South Korea.
Description:
E2FTC research center of Myongji University was founded on September 1, 2009 and since than it has been funded by Univeristy Key Research Center program and will be managed by National research foundation of Korea for the next 9 years. The broad spectrum of research focuses on microbiology, biochemistry, biochemical engineering, catalytic reaction engineering, polymeric/ inorganic membrane, with a special emphasis on the the production of biofuels and biochemicals.
Goals:
The specific goal of E2FTC is to develop an integrated fusion technology for the production of biofuels (biobutanol and biogasoline) and biochemicals by biological and chemical processes, at the same time fulfilling the following aspects also:
1) Development of a pretreatment technology for the production of biobutanol from biomass.
2) Prodiuction of butanol and other biochemicals by recombinant Clostridia or E.coli.
3) Preparation of inorganic, polymeric membranes for pervaparation separation and purification of butanol.
4) Integration of biological fermentation and membrane separation process.
5) Catalytic hydrogenation of fatty acid into alcohol.
6) Catalytic conversion of biomass into biochemicals or biofuels.
7) Preparation of advanced nano-zeolite or materials using nanotechnology for the recovery of phosphorous and lithium from waste water.
Requirements:
Combined MS/PhD and PhD program (4 positions) is open to highly talented and motivated students who have a keen interest and expertise in the following areas:
(A) Molecular biology / biochemical engineering for butanol projects (1 position),
(B) Chemical engineering for catalytic conversion of biomass projects (1 position),
(C) Polymeric membrane / inorganic membrane for the butanol recovery projects (1 position),
(D) Environmental / chemical engineering / chemistry for projects in nano zeolites (1 position).
Applicants are required to have BS or MS degree for the graduate studies. Application should include a brief description of research interest and past research experience, curriculum vitae with names and contact information of 2 personal references.
Relevant publication (articles, BS/MS thesis or similar) can also be attached with the application. Profiency in spoken and written English, excellent interpersonal skill, good research activities and high degree of flexibility is required. Applicants interested only for MS program need not apply. Incomplete application won’t be considered.
Fellowship and benefits:
Successful applicants for the Graduate Program of Energy Technology will receive full tuition scholarship (11,000,000 KRW) and is scheduled to join the spring semester, starting March 1, 2011. Selected applicants will also receive a monthly fellowship in between 600,000 – 800,000 KRW depending on the program from faculty research funds for their personal expenses. The average monthly cost for dormitory room and board including meals will be 230,000 KRW. At present currency exchange rate is 1,160 KRW for one US dollar. Additional perks are given for each article published in peer reviewed international journal.
Application Procedure
The complete application must reach Professor Chung’s address either electronically or by post. After screening, successful selected candidates will be contacted by Professor Chung or either by Dr. Santosh or by Dr. Suman for additional information and materials.
Application deadline:
Complete application should reach either by email or by post by October 31, 2010. Application received after last date won’t be considered. Applicants might be asked in between for additional details. Selected candidate(s) will be informed personally by email by November 15, 2010.
