INSA-CSIR-DAE/BRNS-DOS/ISRO-CICS Travel Fellowship Programme  (for Indian Scientists/Researchers)

CICS provides partial/full support towards travel/registration/per diem to Indian scientists/researchers in various disciplines such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Medicine, Engineering, Space, Computer Science and related areas for attending international scientific conferences, seminars and workshops abroad.

The selection committee, consisting of eminent scientists meets six times a year to scrutinize and recommend award of travel grants. Programmes for Scientists and Researchers from Developing Countries


(1) ‘INSA-JRD-Tata Fellowship’ for scientists and technologists from developing countries
Indian National Science Academy (INSA) has instituted this programme through an endowment received from Sir Dorabji Tata Trust to encourage scientists and technologists from developing countries below 45 years of age to pursue their research in Indian scientific research institutions. This fellowship is offered for duration of 3 months.
 
The fellowship covers: (a) international return air fare by the shortest route by economy class from the place of work of the candidate at his/her country to the host institution in India. (b) Living expenditure to meet boarding, lodging and incidental expenses. (c) One-time grant for purchase of books and stationary.


(2) Research Training Fellowship for Developing Country Scientists (RTFDCS)
 
This fellowship is sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology and implemented by CICS. The fellowship is intended for researchers/scientists from developing countries below 40 years of age to get training in frontier areas of research. The fellowship is offered for duration of 3 months up to a maximum of 12 months, for training in any one of eminent research institutions in India.
 
The fellowship covers: (a) international return air fare by the shortest route by economy class from the place of work of the candidate at his/her country to the host institution in India. (b) Living expenditure to meet boarding, lodging and incidental expenses. (c) One-time grant to support exposure to research related events within India and access to scientific literature.


(3) JNCASR-CICS Fellowship Programme
 
This fellowship programme is jointly instituted by the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bangalore and the Centre for International Co-operation in Science (CICS), Chennai to encourage mobility of scientists from developing countries. The Fellowship covers short-term research, training or participatory research work in physical, chemical or biological sciences in reputed scientific institutions in India including JNCASR.
 
Applicant must be a scientist, teacher or a research scholar affiliated to a scientific or academic institution in a developing country in Asia (other than India), Africa, Latin America and Arab region. The duration of the fellowship is for 3 months.

The fellowship covers (a) international return air fare by the shortest route by economy class from the place of work of the candidate at his/her country to the host institution in India. (b) Boarding, lodging (for the individual only) at the affiliated institution and other subsistence expenses in the form of an adequate allowance in Indian currency. Applicants below 45 years of age are eligible for applying.
