Job Description
The successful candidate will be expected to work in support of transgenic event characterization for product development activities in rice. The incumbent will have the capability to independently plan, manage and coordinate activities in a team environment. Excellent organizational and analytical skills are essential. Ability to work independently and ability to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team are highly desired.
Main Responsibility
Coordinate laboratory and greenhouse operations to insure timely analysis, movement, and management of all research materials in the greenhouse
Perform and assist in management of molecular plant characterization processes and assist in data analysis related to event analysis and advancement
Perform greenhouse testing of transgenic events for trait efficacy and marker assisted backcrossing
Timely submission of accurate and well organized data reports to supervisor
Train and supervise seasonal and contract laborers for greenhouse activities, including emasculation and pollination. May also assist in organizing and directing the work of other employees
Operate hand held devices to collect experimental data and follows protocols to ensure containment compliance with transgenic materials in a greenhouse setting
Plan new experiments and protocols in consultation with manager
Qualifications
Masters of science in agriculture, plant breeding, plant genetics, agricultural biotechnology or equivalent amounts of relevant education and work experience
Minimum 4-6 years experience in the biotechnology industry or National laboratory
Good communication skills
Competencies and experience desired
Experience with genetic screening of plants and standard molecular biology techniques including PCR, Southern and vector constriction is highly recommended
Good understanding of applied genetics and plant breeding
Strong computer skills and a desire to learn and use proprietary research databases and other software tools
Effective organizational as well as good verbal and written communication skills
