Special Project Scientist-Applied Genomics-USAID (two positions)
ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for the position of Special Project Scientist-Applied Genomics, to work on USAID sponsored project entitled “Pigeonpea Improvement through Molecular Breeding”. The position will be based at ICRISAT’s Headquarters in Patancheru, near Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India.
The Job: Responsibilities for these positions include:
- development of bi-parental and advanced mapping populations such as multi-parent advanced generation inter-cross (MAGIC), nested association mapping population (NAM),
- coordinate and participate in multi-location evaluation of mapping populations and germplasm collection for various traits,
- undertake and coordinate high throughput genotyping (or re-sequencing) of germplasm collections, mapping populations and breeding material,
- compiling and analysis of results and writing reports. Successful candidates are expected to write the research papers, guide students/ research technicians/ and participate in organizing workshops/ training programmes.
The Person: Ph. D. Genetics/Plant breeding/Molecular biology/Agricultural Biotechnology or related discipline.
The candidate should have experience of genomics applied to crop improvement together with good knowledge of genetics and breeding. Experience or knowledge on next generation sequencing and/or high-throughput genotyping technologies and molecular breeding would be added value. Preference will be given to candidates with a good publication record. The job involves working in inter-disciplinary team in multicultural and multinational environment and the ability to interact with partner organizations. Fluency in spoken and written English is essential.
The Reward: The position is initially for a three year period, and may be extended depending on requirement, funding availability and performance of the incumbent. An attractive all inclusive consolidated remuneration will be paid in Indian Rupees with appropriate medical and accidental insurance coverage.
