Technical Assistant
Job Description As part of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt of India funded project ‘Taxonomy and barcoding of nematodes’ as part of the ITIS under MLR Programme, a Technical Assistant position is open in the Integrative Taxonomy and Microbial Ecology Research Group, Department of Biological Sciences, IISERK. The position is initially for one year but could be extended subjected to satisfactory performance. The selected candidate will receive a salary of Rs 12,000 per month (consolidated).
Required Skills As part of this project free-living marine nematodes from the West Bengal coastal stretches will be identified based on taxonomy, barcoded using high throughput sequencing techniques and hypotheses of marine nematode diversity will be tested.The selected RA will participate in field activities, develop the DNA barcoding library for free-living marine nematodes and undertake large scale biological surveys to estimate marine nematode diversity using DNA barcoding and high-throughput sequencing.
Qualification and Experience Details Candidates with a background in M.Sc Marine Science/Zoology/Botany/Microbiology/Biotechnology can apply. Knowledge in benthic taxonomy, field sampling exposure and prior experience in DNA barcoding shall be preferred.
