Mahatma Gandhi-Doerenkamp Center (MGDC) and EPISKIN Academy are proud to announce their continuous partnership to promote and educate the Indian scientific community to alternatives to animal testing based on in vitro reconstructed human tissue models.

Background of the workshop

* There is worldwide a progressive shift in toxicology from animal testing to in vitro methods for scientific, regulatory and ethical reasons. The complete ban of animal testing for cosmetics has considerably accelerated the progress in this field. Several methods have been validated and integrated in European law and in OECD testing guidelines. Dissemination of these methods requires an effort of communication, education and training.

*After an overview of the regulation in Europe and a short focus on US and Indian regulations, this workshop will present the state of the art of scientifically valid and validated methods in toxicology. A special focus will be made onto methods based on 3D reconstructed human skin models. The second part of the workshop will be dedicated to training in the skin corrotion/ irritation assessment. The trainees will perform in real condition the assessment of unknown products according to the OECD TG 431/439 in vitro skin corrosion/irritation protocol.

Venue & Dates

The training session will be held at the Department of Endocrinology, Dr AL Mudaliar PG Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (Dr ALM PGIBMS), University of Madras- Taramani Campus, Chennai 600113, on November 19 & 20, 2015.

Who can participate [Enrollment will be limited to 12 participants ]

* Faculties/Scientists/Students from Universities/Institutes, with a background knowledge of animal cell / tissue culture

* Representatives from Regulatory Bodies /Authorities / Science Academies

* [CROs/Technicians/Personnel from Pharma Industry & Contract Labs will not be entertained in this slot. They may contact aalonso@skinethic.com for information about a special training].

Registration Fee : Rs. 10,000 /-

This highly subsidized registration fee (cost of tissue samples alone for each trainee is Rs. 75,000/-) includes hostel accommodation and food for 2 days. Those trainees who prefer hotel accommodation will have to make their own arrangements and bear the cost. The participants will have to bear the cost of travel.

Selected candidates will be intimated via Email by the weekend and the registration charge is to be paid thereafter in a DD.
