Eligibility conditions1. For Research Student / Master’s Degree

Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant field with minimum 65% marks. The candidates should obtain their mark sheet and degree on or before 31st March 2020 for April 2020 batch and 30th September 2020 for October 2020 batch.

2. For Ph.D. Degree

Master’s degree in the relevant field with minimum 65% marks. Candidate having practical research/teaching/work experience after obtaining the prescribed qualification on or before 31st March 2020 for April 2020 batch and 30th September 2020 for October 2020 batch.

3. For Research Student/Master’s degree in Japanese Language

a) Students who have completed Bachelor’s degree / Master’s degree course in Japanese Language from a recognized university.

OR

b) Students who have completed Bachelor’s degree course in any subject from a recognized university and obtained N2 Certificate of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) conducted by the Japan Foundation.

4. For Ph.D. degree in Japanese Language

Students who have completed Master degree course in Japanese Language from a recognized university.
Term of scholarshipA typical master's degree course is for two years.(*1)
A typical doctoral degree course is for three years. (*1)
In case preparatory education is required, a 6-month preparatory education period will be separately added. (*2)

Stipend144,000 Yen/ month (Approx. Rs. 89,440 / month for the year 2019 *3)

The completed application form mentioning subject Research Student and file name as field of study-name.docx (e.g. physics-amit.docx) should be sent to the Embassy through email as an attachment, by 13th May 2019.

*1: If a student opts for Masters or Ph.D. program, the scholarship term may get extended, provided that he/she has outstanding academic achievement that meets certain criteria set by the MEXT.
*2: It will be exempted if student has a good ability of Japanese Language or enters the courses offered in English.
*3: The amount is subject to change depending on the annual budget of each year
