The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier autonomous Institute under the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, in the field of wildlife research, teaching and training. The Institute invites application from the Indian nationals for the position of Project Associate (03), Project Fellow (15), Junior Project Fellow (1) and Project Assistant (01) through a Qualifying test followed by Interview(s). Terai Road Project 

Project Associate 01 No.

EQ: Ph.D. Degree in Zoology/Botany/Wildlife Science/ Environmental Science/Forestry/Experimental Biology/ Biological Science/Ecological Science/Life Science and Social Science relevant to studies in human dimensions aspect of wildlife management, have published research work to their credit and have already shown evidence of independent research work. 

DQ: Preference will be given to the candidate having Ph.D./ M.Phil. Degree in relevant subjects and working experience in wildlife field assessment and survey. The candidate should have experience in wildlife ecology. Required to visit the proposed area of work in Uttar Pradesh Terai region, to collect data and and to coordinate with the other team members.

Study of the Impacts of the Increased Operation Time of the Main Conveyer Belt of JSW on the Wildlife in Sandur Taluk, Ballary District of Karnataka (To be initiated, subject to availability of fund)

Field surveys and camera trapping for generating baseline data on mammalian diversity and habitat use within the study area. Field work will be carried out in remote forest areas throughout suitable seasons during day and night hours.

1. Experience in herpetofaunal survey, scientific handling and basic knowledge of their taxonomy.

The project aims to systematically document diversity, distribution and ecological information of reptiles and amphibians. Field work will be carried out in remote forest areas throughout suitable seasons during day and night hours. 

Project Associate 01

EQ: Ph.D. Degree in Zoology/Botany/Wildlife Science/ Environmental Science/Forestry/Experimental Biology/ Biological Science/Ecological Science/Life Science and Social Science relevant to studies in human dimensions aspect of wildlife management, have published research work to their credit and have already shown evidence of independent research work. 

DQ: Candidate should have proven written and communication skills in science. The candidate should have experience in wildlife survey, occupancy analysis, population estimation, habitat quantification using different approaches. Candidates with knowledge of bio-statistical softwares such as R, GIS and Remote sensing tools and softwares, as well as ecological tools for biodiversity assessment will be preferred. 

Lead a team of researchers in regular field data collection, analysis and report writing and also assist, PIs, and other project colleagues. The candidate will be responsible for various works under the project at Ballari District of Karnataka from its inception to the end.

EQ: Masters in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Forest Management/ Conservation Biology/ Life Sciences/ Environmental Sciences/ Environmental Management/ Agricultural Sciences/ Veterinary Sciences with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from a recognized University. M.Sc. obtained two years prior to date of application. Experience of working on a wildlife research/ conservation project. OR PhD n Wildlife Sciences/ Environmental Science or Management/ Zoology / Life Sciences / Forestry/ Conservation Biology in relevant topic. DQ: Candidates with prior experience in sampling design and animal abundance estimation and conversant with PHVA, demography models and species distribution modeling, knowledge of software like MARK, DISTANCE, VORTEX, SECR and MAXENT, able to do field work in harsh condition will be given preference. Proficiency in using computers and good writing skill in English language. Publications are desirable

Field work and analysis of data on animal abundance, occupancy and habitat parameters, report writing. Work will be both at HQ in Dehradun, with several field visits to forest interiors, wildlife areas and arduous terrains across India.

EQ: M.Sc. in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Forest Management/ Conservation Biology/ Life Sciences/ Environmental Sciences/ Environmental Management/ Agricultural Sciences/ Veterinary Sciences/ Biotechnology/ Genetics with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from a recognized University. 

DQ: Candidate(s) with prior experience in sampling design and animal abundance estimation, knowledge of softwares like MARK, DISTANCE, and SECR will be preferred. Able to do field work in harsh condition. Population estimation using distance sampling, camera traps, mark recapture, and occupancy analysis. Habitat evaluation and human disturbance assessment. The research work will be carried out in different parts of India. Work will be primarily at field sites with occasional visits to the HQ at Dehradun.

Landscape scale assessment of habitat, population and genetic structure of Hispid Hare Caprolagus hispidus in the highly fragmented Terai grassland of India VP

DQ: Preference will be given to candidate having Lab experience in DNA extraction, PCR amplification, electrophoresis and genetic data analysis 

The project aims to combine population and landscape ecology approaches along with conservation genetics to monitor Hispid Hare populations and the occupied habitat in the Terai-landscape of India. The candidate required to visit areas of Terai region of India for data and samples collection and undertake required analysis in lab.

Junior Project Fellow 01 no.

DQ: Research Experience in Aquatic Ecology/ River Ecology/ Fish Biology. Knowledge of field data collection methods, stream habitat assessment, data base management, GIS and basic statistical analysis. 

The Project Fellow should involve in regular field data collection at LTEO sites in Western Ghats landscape, analysis and report writing, also assist with Project Scientist and PI for implementing the LTEO project
