Walk-in Interview on 04-Jan-2021 to engage Research Personnel

Application

Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) is a Centre of Excellence under the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India. SACON wishes to engage research personnel (Indian national only) for the ongoing research projects through a Walk-in Interview on 04-Jan-2021 at SACON, Coimbatore. Details of the available positions along with essential and desirable qualifications are given below:

  • Position :   Junior Research Biologist  (01 No)

Project:  Characterization of Community Reserves and Assessment of their Conservation Values in Meghalaya.

Duration: Till 31 March 2021, likely to be extended.

Essential Qualifications: M. Sc Degree in Zoology/Wildlife Sciences/ Wildlife Biology/ Biodiversity, Wildlife Conservation & Management from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks.

Desirable Qualifications: (i) Knowledge & work experience on field methods for faunal taxa sampling, especially on mammals, (ii) Willingness to work in mountain areas.

Age:         Shall not exceed 28 years on the date of interview.

Fellowship:  Rs. 25,000/- per month, plus HRA as applicable.

Description of Work: The selected candidate is expected to undertake faunal (Mammals) studies as per the requirements of the project in different Community Reserves of Meghalaya and assist the Principal Investigator in other project activities.

  • Position :   Junior Research Biologist  (01 No)

Project:  Preparation of revised avifauna conservation plans for five developmental projects for Chattisgarh Forest Department.

Duration: 02 years, likely to be extended.

Essential Qualifications: M. Sc Degree in Wildlife Biology/ Ecology/ Zoology/ Botany/ Environmental Science/ Life Sciences from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks.

Desirable Qualifications: (i) Field experience in ecological studies on avifauna/ impact assessment studies, (ii) Knowledge on flora and plant identification.

Age:         Shall not exceed 28 years on the date of interview.

Fellowship:  Rs. 31,000/- per month, plus HRA as applicable.Description of Work: The selected candidate needs to undertake ecological studies in remote field sites of Chhattisgarh state.

  • Position :   Senior Research Biologist  (01 No)

Project:  Bird Hazard Assessment Study for the all-weather Helipad at Sagar Island in the district of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal proposed by Diamond Harbour Highway Division, PWD, Govt of West Bengal.

Duration: 06 Months

Essential Qualifications: (i) M. Sc Degree in Wildlife Biology/ Ecology/ Zoology/ Botany/ Environmental Science/ Life Sciences from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks, (ii) Two years of experience after Post-graduation in wildlife research.

Desirable Qualifications: (i) Field experience in ecological studies on avifauna/ impact assessment studies, (ii) Data analysis and Report writing, (iii) Knowledge on flora and plant identification will be an added advantage.

Age:         Shall not exceed 32 years on the date of interview.

Fellowship:  Rs. 35,000/- per month, plus HRA as applicable.Description of Work: The selected candidate needs to undertake strenuous field surveys and bird hazard data collection along with the JRB. He/she is also expected to have leadership qualities and reasonable expertise in data analysis and preparation of scientific reports.

  • Position :   Junior Research Biologist  (01 No)

Description of Work: The selected candidate needs to undertake strenuous field surveys and bird hazard data collection along with the SRB and help in analyse data and prepare project reports.

  • Position :   Junior Research Biologist  (01 No)

Project:  National Centre for monitoring and surveillance of impact of environmental contaminants on ecosystem components with special focus on birds in India.

Duration: Till 31 March 2021.

Essential Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Wildlife Science/ Zoology/  Environmental Science from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks.

Desirable Qualifications: (i) After PG Degree, minimum of one year experience in field and or laboratory in ecological / ecotoxicological studies, (ii) Proficiency in English.

Age:         Shall not exceed 28 years on the date of interview.

Fellowship:  Rs. 25,000/- per month, plus HRA as applicable.

Description of Work: The selected candidate shall undertake field surveys independently across India  ii) Should work in the field that will include survey in forest, urban and agroecosystem, iii) Collect biological and non-biological samples from different parts of India iii)  Process collected samples in the laboratory for estimation of  environmental contaminants and iii) Analyse data and prepare report.

  • Position :   Technical Assistant  (01 No)

Project:  Laboratory Minor Project.

Duration: Till 30 June 2021.

Essential Qualifications: Master’s degree in chemistry from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks.

Desirable Qualifications: (i) Minimum of one-year experience in laboratory in processing and analysing samples in Chromatograph.

Age:         Shall not exceed 28 years on the date of interview.

Fellowship:  Rs 20,000/- per month, plus HRA as applicable.Description of Work: (i) The selected candidate shall undertake sample preparation and analysis of chemical contaminants in biological and non-biological samples in the laboratory, (ii) Should work in the field that will include sample collection from different parts of India, (iii)  Process collected samples in the laboratory for estimation of  contaminants and (iv) Help analyze data and prepare report.

Interested candidates, who fulfil all essential qualifications, can attend the Walk-in Interview at SACON Campus on 04-Jan-2021Candidates should report to the venue at 09.00 AM on the date of interview for registration and should submit duly filled-in application forms with recent passport-size photograph affixed, along with self-attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications, research experience, date of birth, community, extracurricular activities etc. All original documents in support of qualifications, age etc. should be produced at the time of interview for verification.

GENERALTERMS & CONDITIONS

  1. Candidates applying for the above position should possess the Essential Qualification as per the details given on the date of interview.
  2. A candidate can apply for maximum of two advertised positions only. Candidates applying for two advertised positions should submit separate sets of filled-in application forms along with photocopies of all testimonials.
  3. The upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women/Physically Challenged categories as per Central Government norms.
  4. Selected candidate will be engaged initially for a period mentioned against the advertised position. Subsequently his/her tenure may be extended at sole discretion of the Centre depending upon the requirement of the project and satisfactory performance of the candidate.
  5. Selected candidate may be allowed hostel accommodation at SACON as per availability. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel would be admissible as per the rules.
  6. The selection of the candidate(s) will be based on the walk-in interview to be held at SACON, Moongilpallam, Anaikatty, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Candidates should report to the venue at 09.00 AM on the interview day for registration and verification of original certificates.
  7. Canvassing in any form is liable to rejection of the candidature.
  8. The Centre will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.
