Walk-in Interview on 04-March-2021 to engage Research Personnel

Application

Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) is a Centre of Excellence under the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India. SACON wishes to engage research personnel (Indian national only) for the ongoing research projects through a Walk-in Interview on 04-March-2021 at SACON, Coimbatore. Details of the available positions along with essential and desirable qualifications are given below:

I. Position :   Junior Research Biologist  (01 No)

Project:  Characterization of Community Reserves and Assessment of their Conservation Values in Meghalaya.

Duration: Till 31st March 2021. (Likely to extend till 31st January 2022)..

Essential Qualifications: Master’s Degree (PG) with minimum 55% marks in Geographical Information System and Remote Sensing/ Geoinformatics/ Spatial Technology or M.Sc/ M.A in Geography or Geology with PG Diploma in Geographical Information System and Remote Sensing from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualifications: Knowledge/work experience, in developing spatial database, spatial analysis and research projects on Natural Resource Management, Forestry or Environmental Sciences and willingness to work in hilly terrain.

Age:         Shall not exceed 28 years on the date of interview.

Fellowship:  Rs. 25,000/- per month, plus HRA as applicable.

Description of Work: The selected candidate is expected to undertake spatial database creation and analysis as per the requirements of the project and assist the Principal Investigator in other project activities.

II. Position :   IT Officer  (01 No)

Project:  Environment Information Systems (ENVIS) Resource Partner on Wetlands including Inland wetlands.

Duration: Till 31st  March 2021.

Essential Qualifications: (i) Master’s Degree (PG) with minimum 55% marks in Zoology, Botany, Life science or Environmental Science from a recognized University, (ii) Diploma in Computer software/ RS/GIS.

Desirable Qualifications: (i) Knowledge of Wetland Ecology / Conservation Science, (ii) Well-versed in Computer applications, (iii) Proficiency in Spoken and Written English, (iv) Proficiency in Spoken Hindi and (v) Minimum two years of experience in a similar capacity. (vi) CSIR NET / GATE qualification, (vii) Proficiency in extra-curricular activities

Age:         Shall not exceed 30 years on the date of interview.

Fellowship:  Rs. 28672.16 per month (Consolidated).

Description of Work: The selected candidate has to undertake data collection and compilation of wetland related literature. Assist the Program Officer and Information Officer in dissemination of information, preparation of website and publications material to be  circulated among different sections of the society. Assist and participate in the existing and new activities of the ENVIS Resource partner as per the instructions received from the Project coordinator and ENVIS secretariat.

III. Position :   Junior Research Fellow (JRF)/ Junior Research Biologist (JRB)  (01 No)

Project:  Long Term Monitoring of Bird Diversity and Populations Across lndia

Duration: Till 31st   March 2021. (Extendable for further periods as per the project requirement)

Essential Qualifications: Master’s Degree (PG) with minimum 55% marks in Basic Sciences, Environmental Sciences with NET or GATE qualification (Non NET/GATE candidates also may apply. In case of non-availability of suitable  NET/GATE qualified candidate, Non NET/GATE candidates fulfilling other qualification criteria as above may be considered for engaging as Junior Project Fellow as per the norms)

Desirable Qualifications: Knowledge in bird identification, bird population surveys, and bird capture/ ringing techniques.

Age:         Shall not exceed 28 years on the date of interview.

Fellowship:  Rs 31,000 per month, plus HRA as applicable for JRF & Rs. 25,000 per month, plus HRA as applicable for JRB.

Description of Work: The selected candidate is expected to undertake challenging field work in the remote areas of the Andaman Islands and  Assist the Principal and Co-Principal lnvestigators in project-related activities.

GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS

  1. Candidates applying for the above position should possess the Essential Qualification as per the details given on the date of interview.
  2. A candidate can apply maximum for two advertised positions only. Candidates applying for two advertised positions should submit separate sets of filled-in application forms along with photocopies of all testimonials.
  3. The upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women/Physically Challenged categories as per Central Government norms.
  4. Selected candidate will be engaged initially for a period mentioned against the advertised position. Subsequently his/her tenure may be extended at sole discretion of the Centre depending upon the requirement of the project and satisfactory performance of the candidate.
  5. Selected candidate may be allowed hostel accommodation at SACON as per availability. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel would be admissible as per the rules.
  6. The selection of the candidate(s) will be based on the walk-in interview to be held at SACON, Moongilpallam, Anaikatty, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Candidates should report to the venue at 09.00 AM on the interview day for registration and verification of original certificates.
  7. Canvassing in any form is liable to rejection of the candidature.
  8. The Centre will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.
