The Wildlife Institute of India is an internationally acclaimed Institution, which offers training program for government and non-government personnel, academic courses and advisory in wildlife research and management. The Institute is actively engaged in research across the breadth of the country on biodiversity related issues. 

The Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun invites online application from INDIAN NATIONALS for engaging 
two (02) Post-doctoral Fellow/ Project Scientist – I, 
five (05) Senior Project Associate (Ecology), 
one (01) Senior Project Associate (Genetics), 
one (01) Project Associate – I (RS & GIS), 
one (01) Project Associate – I (Statistics), 
one (01) Project Associate – I/ II (Ecology) and 
three (03) Project Associate – I (Ecology), for various projects on purely contractual basis. 

The period of the contractual engagement will initially be for a period of 01 (one) year, which is most likely to be extended based on the candidate’s performance and project needs. The EQ, DQ, age, monthly emoluments and other details of the position are as provided below: 

1 Long term monitoring of tigers, co-predators and prey in tiger reserves and other tiger bearing areas of Vidarbha, Maharashtra 

Duration: More than four (04) years 

Post-doctoral Fellow/ Project Scientist – I (Ecology) 

No of positions: one (01) 

Essential Qualification: Doctoral Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences from a recognized University. 

Desired Qualifications: Demonstrated experience/ aptitude in 
a) spatial analysis and ecological modelling, 
b) statistical analysis, 
c) project design and coordination of multi-disciplinary project team and field data collection 
c) research publications in peer-reviewed national/ international journals. Candidate will coordinate a multi-disciplinary team and conduct field research, surveys, data collection, analysis and report-writing.

Senior Project Associate (Ecology) 

No of positions: one (01) 

Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University. AND Minimum four (04) years of research experience in relevant field after Masters’ degree is required. Publications in peerreviewed journals in relevant field. OR Doctoral Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences from a recognized University Desired Qualifications: Candidate(s) with prior experience in sampling design and animal abundance estimation are preferred. Prior experience of sampling using camera trapping, distance sampling and radiotelemetry. Knowledge of GIS and GPS is desirable. Should be able to undertake arduous field work under rigorous conditions.

The work involves field monitoring of tiger, co-predators and their prey with techniques such as camera-trapping, distance sampling and radiotelemetry in TATR, Pench TR, NNTR, Melghat TR, Bor TR, Umred WLS and Tippeshwar WLS. The objectives of this study include demographic trends of carnivores and prey species, dispersal, and movement ecology of tigers.

Senior Project Associate (Genetics) 

Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Genetics with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University AND Minimum four (04) years of research experience in relevant field after Masters’ degree is required. Publications in peerreviewed journals in relevant field. OR Doctoral Degree in Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Genetics from a recognized University. 

Desired Qualifications: Candidates with prior experience of working on non-invasive techniques of population genetics of wild animals. Knowledge of GIS and GPS is desirable. Should be able to undertake arduous field work under rigorous conditions.

The selected candidate will be working on the population genetics of large carnivores involving both lab and field work. The job involves training students for data generation from samples, performing analyses, and report writing.

Project Associate – I (Ecology) 

No of positions: three (03) 

Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University. Candidates with a Masters’ Degree in Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Genetics and/or are pursuing or have completed their PhD need not apply for this post. 

Desired Qualifications: Candidate(s) with prior experience in sampling design and animal abundance estimation are preferred. Prior experience of sampling using camera trapping, distance sampling and radiotelemetry. Knowledge of GIS and GPS is desirable. Should be able to undertake arduous field work under rigorous conditions. The ecology of the ratel in unknown in India and this project will be the first scientific study to understand their space use, movement, activity, and diet in Melghat TR. 

This project will also study the movement ecology of Asiatic wild dogs in NNTR and interaction of dholes and tigers with respect to their niche partitioning (food, space and time).

Duration: More than four (04) years

The work involves field sampling to assess the present status of large carnivores and prey in Pandharkawda, Bramhapuri, Nagpur, Bhandara and Gondia, Jalgaon/Yaval and Chadrapur Forest Divisions. The work involves developing village-level database of human, livestock populations along with conflict information. The project aims to find threshold values of human population, road density and habitat transformation parameters for coexistence with humans for the different large carnivore species. Evaluating effectiveness and applicability of mitigation measures is part of the project.

Project No 3 Response to Anthropocene and Climate change: Movement ecology of selected mammal species across the Indian Himalayan Region 

Duration: Two (02) years 

Project Associate – I/ II (Ecology) 

Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University. AND (for PA II) 

Minimum two (02) years of research experience in relevant field after Masters’ degree is required. Publications in peerreviewed journals in relevant field. 

For PA – I: Candidates with a Masters’ Degree in Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Genetics need not apply for this post. For PA – I, II: Candidates who are pursuing or have completed their PhD need not apply for this post. The proposed project aims to study the movement ecology of selected mammal species with different ecological adaptations across the IHR. The selected mammal species are Pallas’s cat (Otocolobus manul), Himalayan wolf (Canis lupus) and Himalayan marmot (Marmota himalayana). The work involves capture and tagging of target species and intensive monitoring in tough and rugged terrain of Ladakh India. 

PA – I: Rs. 31,000 + HRA PA – II: Rs. 35,000 + HRA 

Project No 4 Biodiversity impact assessment, wildlife study and preparation of wildlife passage plan for improvement and upgradation to 4- lane configuration of MeerutNazibabad section of NH-119, Uttar Pradesh Duration: Six (06) months

Project Scientist – I (Ecology) 

Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University. AND More than six (06) years of research experience after Masters’ degree in the field related to road/ rail ecology. Publications in peerreviewed journals in relevant field.
