Biotechnology, Bioinformatics
The Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics possesses a vision to produce
professionals with leadership quality in technology, creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Apart from UG and PG programs, the department has Ph.D. programs in Biotechnology and
Bioinformatics. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories with sophisticated
instrumentation facilities and workstations. The faculty works in diverse research areas and is
trained by reputed national and international organizations of repute. The department received
research funding from DBT, DST, ICMR, DRDO, MOEFCC, Industry, HIMCOSTE, etc. As of
date, 10 patents have been granted to the department. The department has active Students
Exchange Program with the University of Nebraska at Omaha and South Dakota Mines – An
engineering, science and technology University, SD, USA.

collaborations with reputed national and International Institutes.

A. Eligibility Criteria & Minimum Qualifications:
(i) Regular (Not Distance Mode) MTech Degree of a University or equivalent for PhD in
Engineering / Technology in respective branch with 60% Aggregate Marks or CGPA not
less than 6 on scale of 10.
(ii) Regular (Not Distance Mode) Master’s Degree of a University for PhD in Sciences /
Humanities / Social Sciences / Management in respective discipline or equivalent with
60% Aggregate marks or CGPA not less than 6 on scale of 10.
(iii) Consistently good academic record/performance with 1st Division all through; i.e. 60%
aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of not less than 6 on a scale of 10 at both
undergraduate and post graduate level.
B. Admission Procedure:
(i) Admission shall be based on written test followed by personal interview.
(ii) Candidates who have qualified the Entrance test will only be allowed for the personal
interview.
(iii) NET/SLET/UGC/CSIR(JRF) or equivalent national level examination qualified
candidates are exempted from the written test. However, they have to appear for the
personal interview.
(iv) Each eligible candidate will have to give a short presentation before the interview
committee in the area of research interest.
C. Teaching Assistantships:
Teaching Assistantship Amount: Rs. 12000/- per month
Duration: 12 months in an Academic Year (Maximum 03 years of duration)
Eligibility: Full-Time Research Scholars will be provided Teaching Assistantships on
pro-rata basis considering actual attendance during the month.

E. How to Apply (Opt for any of the following)
(i) Apply on line at https://www.juit.ac.in or https://www.getadmissions.com/jaypee
Candidates making online application through the Portal are required to pay online application
fee.
(ii) Download the application form from the web site www.juit.ac.in and send it to address
given above. Application must be sent along with a Demand Draft of Rs. 1,000/- in
favour of “Jaypee University of Information Technology” payable at Shimla.
(iii) You may also obtain the application form from the office of Registrar, Jaypee University
of Information Technology, Waknaghat as per the above address by sending a draft of
Rs. 1,000/- or purchase the same from University counter in person by paying application
fee.
F. Written Examination Procedure
(i) Weightage: 50% component from Research Methodology and 50% subject specific
component.
(ii) Number of Questions: 60 Questions (30 questions from Research Methodology and 30
Questions from subject specific)
(iii) Marking: (15 Questions of 01 Mark each and 15 Questions of 02 Marks each from both
the components i.e. Research Methodology and specific subject)
(iv) Duration : 90 minutes
(v) Full Marks: 90 Marks to be normalized to 70 marks.
(vi) Qualifying Marks: 50% (45 Marks)
(vii) The syllabi for each program/ specialization are available on the University on the web
site.
G. Personal Interview shall be conducted only for the candidates who have qualified the
entrance test examination. 30 Marks weightage is assigned for personal interview.
