Applications are invited for Twenty (20) Birbal Sahni Research Scholar (BSRS) at Birbal Sahni Institute
of Palaeosciences, Lucknow.
Essential Qualification: M.Sc. in Botany/Geology/related discipline* with high academic attainments both
at graduate and postgraduate levels.
Desirable Qualification: CSIR/UGC/NET/GATE or research experience in the relevant fields of
Palaeosciences during his/her dissertation/internships at post-graduate level.
* The fields of earth sciences and allied disciplines such as Precambrian palaeobiology, Palaeozoic, Mesozoic,
Cenozoic (Palynology/Palaeobotany/Palaeobiogeography, micropalaeontology, vertebrate palaeontology),
Quaternary Palaeoclimate (Himalayan, Fluvial, lacustrine, Coastal), Marine micropalaeontology, Coal
Petrology/Source Rock Evaluation, Industrial Palynology/Hydrocarbon Exploration, Archaeobotany and
Dendrochronology.
AGE LIMIT: The Upper age limit is 28 years as on 11.03.2024. A relaxation in age limit upto three years may
be considered in the case of applicants who are suitably qualified and have research training/teaching
experience on the recommendations of the Selection Committee. In the case of applicants of Scheduled
Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Other Backward Classes, age relaxation upto five years may be allowed.
GENERAL CONDITIONS:
1. The tenure of the Birbal Sahni Research Scholar is Five Years (initially for 02 years and extendable
for 03 years). The Research Scholar shall be entitled to a sum of Rs. 31,000/-+ HRA per month
during first and second year {For NET Qualified candidates} and a sum of Rs. 25,000/-+ HRA per
month during first and second year {For Non-NET candidates}. After the period of two years, the
progress report of the Research Scholars will be assessed along-with publications/accepted
research papers, research reports, etc. by a Committee constituted by the Director. If found
satisfactory, the Research Scholars will be allowed to continue with the scholarship of a sum of
Rs. 35,000/-+ HRA per month {For NET Qualified candidates} and a sum of Rs. 28,000/-+ HRA per
month {For Non-NET candidates} for Third, Fourth and Fifth year.
2. Only the Indian citizens normally residing in India are eligible for Research Scholarship.
3. The award of a Scholarship shall not imply any assurance or guarantee for subsequent employment
at the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences.
4. The Birbal Sahni Research Scholars will not be entitled to Dearness Allowance and City
Compensatory Allowance. House Rent Allowance and Medical benefits may be allowed to the Birbal
Sahni Research Scholars as per the Staff Rules of the Institute. For this purpose, the fellowship
amount for the Birbal Sahni Research Scholars will be taken as basic pay. No bonus and Leave
Travel Concession facility will be admissible to the Birbal Sahni Research Scholars.
5. Mere fulfilling of the minimum qualification and experience requirements does not automatically
entitle an applicant to be called for test and/or interview.
6. The Institute reserve the right to alter/insert any corrections/additions in the
advertisement/website in the event of any typographical error before the last date prescribed for
the receipt of applications.
7. Director, Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences reserves the right to reject any or all the
applications without assigning any reason or not to fill any post, if suitable candidates are not
available or because of any other reason.
8. All the applications received within the due date in response to this advertisement shall be
considered for short-listing by a Screening Committee and only the candidates recommended by the
Screening Committee will be called for test and/or interview. The decision of the Institute on shortlisting will be final and the Institute will not entertain any correspondence in this respect.
9. The Birbal Sahni Research Scholar may avail only Casual leave as per the rules of the Institute. For
women Scholars, the maternity leave rules as applicable in the Institute shall apply.
10. The number of Scholarships may vary. The Institute reserves the right not to fill up any of the
Scholarships.
11. Usual infrastructural facilities for research including funds for field work, Ph.D. registration fee and
other related support will be provided by the Institute. The nomination of the Supervisor and CoSupervisor (if needed) for Birbal Sahni Research Scholars and their placement of the Birbal Sahni
Research Scholars in various Projects will be made by the Institute.
12. No scholarship shall discontinue his/her scholarship without the prior approval of the Institute. In
case, he/she wants to discontinue his/her scholarship prior to completion of the tenure or the
attainment of original objectives of research, he/she must submit his/her resignation to the
Institute atleast one month in advance, indicating specific reasons for not continuing the
scholarship. The scholarship shall cease from the date the Institute accepts the resignation of the
scholar.

Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences, Lucknow.
Essential Qualification: Master's degree (M.Sc.) in Botany/Geology/relevant discipline* with high
academic attainments both at the graduate and post-graduate levels and three years of research experience
in appropriate discipline or Ph.D. in appropriate discipline.
Desirable Qualification: A good number of research publications in peer reviewed National and
International journals.
