CSMCRI Algal/Plant sciences Research Internships [6 Posts]

Applications are invited from Indian nationals for awarding 22 (numbers) of Diamond Jubilee Research Internship, who are creative and have passion and desire to pursue S&T as a career. The total number of internship is tentative and may vary/increase as per requirements. The presently advertised posts as well as any additional requirements would be filled up from the panel of selected candidates,  in the order of merit, in the designated areas through this interview, which will be valid for one year.

The CSIR Diamond Jubilee Research Intern Awards scheme is meant to be a preparatory phase for young interns to imbibe the spirit of inquiry and learn the tools and techniques of research through participation and doing. The scheme thus seeks young interns to gain from the knowledge and experience of accomplished scientists by working with them and to take up S&T as a career. 

CSIR, the premier industrial R&D organization in India, was established in 1942 by a resolution of the then Central Legislative Assembly. CSMCRI, Bhavnagar is an autonomous body under the aegis of CSIR registered under the Registration of the Societies Act of 1860. 

Eligibility:

Essential Qualification: Minimum 1st Class or equivalent GPA in the BE/ B.Tech or 1st class equivalent GPA in M.Sc, broadly in the areas of Chemical Sciences / Biological sciences (plant sciences). The details of the positions and related fields are as follows:


Biological Science (Algal/Plant sciences)

M.Sc. in Biotechnology/Genetic engineering/botany/plant sciences/microbiology/marine science/biochemistry/Agricultural biotechnology

(1st Class or equivalent GPA)

A. Genetic engineering/biotechnology: Mining salt-tolerant genes, gene function and regulation, transformation for salinity-tolerant crops.

B. Algal biology: seaweed cultivation (2 posts would preferably require diving experience in sea and/or swimming, of which 1 post is for Mandapam, Tamil Nadu); diatom culture and valorization of products.

C. Seaweed biostimulants: transcriptome, metabolome, biochemistry, analysis of bioactives in seaweed biostimulants


Internship requirement: Selected interns would be required to assist the scientists in the various assignments broadly in the field of Chemical Sciences, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and biological sciences (algal/Plant Sciences) and related areas so as to acquire multi-tasking hands-on training on the subject/area.

Age Limit:

Not more than 25 yrs. as on the date of the interview which is relaxable 05 years in case of SC/ ST/ Persons with Benchmark Disabilities/ female candidates and 03 years in case of OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates. 

Stipend: 

Rs.24000/- per month consolidated. No other allowance is admissible.

Tenure: 

The tenure will be a maximum period of 02 years, subject to the availability of funds under the scheme, not extendable under any circumstances and subject to satisfactory performance to be evaluated every 06 months. The interns shall have no claim for further extension, absorption or regularization in CSIR after the expiry / termination of the internship. In case the performance is not satisfactory, the internship will be terminated with one month’s notice or one month’s stipend in lieu thereof. This scheme may be terminated at any time with the approval of the Director, CSIR-CSMCRI, in case of financial exigencies. During the internship period, the intern would be free to appear for NET/GATE and secure regular fellowship for doing Ph.D. The candidate, however, wont be eligible to pursue his/her Ph.D while being an intern. The experience of intern would also be not counted for getting Ph.D. admission in AcSIR.  

Mode of Selection:

  1. Candidate’s academic records and/or
  2. Performance of candidate in the test that may be conducted by the Institute and
  3. Interview        

Interested eligible candidates must report at CSMCRI, Bhavnagar on the subject-wise scheduled interview dates at 9.00 A.M. (Candidates will not be entertained after 10:00 A.M.). A written screening test would be conducted, if needed, to shortlist  the eligible candidates for personal interview.  Selection of candidates for the Research Intern Awards would be based on their overall performance in the interview.

The application forms should be accompanied by self-attested photograph and copies of testimonials/ certificates in support of age, certificates and marksheets of educational qualifications, experience and caste / tribe etc. mentioned in the application. The applicant must also bring all original certificates/ testimonials at the time of test/ interview for verification. 

The selected interns would need to sign a confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement before joining. They also need to have their personal medical insurance coverage of at least Rs. 2.5 Lakhs per annum at their own cost before joining CSIR-CSMCRI.
