About the Topic
Homology modeling, also known as
comparative modeling, is considered one of the central and most widely used
techniques for predicting the three-dimensional structure of proteins.
Knowledge of protein structure is crucial to understanding its function in
various biological processes. Homology modeling has been one of the most
frequently used theoretical methods for protein structure design in bioscience
research over the past few decades. This in-silico based method is very
cost-effective and consumes less time compared to experimental methods like
X-ray crystallography. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the
complete theoretical concept and practical steps of homology modeling of
proteins, using the popular program Modeller.
The session will cover basic homology modeling and advanced level
"multi-template modeling."
Molecular docking:
Molecular
docking is an advanced computer-based simulation technique used to study
receptor-ligand interactions at the atomistic level. It is widely adopted by
life science professionals to understand the mechanism of various biochemical
reactions, protein-protein interactions, and to discover and design new drug
molecules for life-threatening diseases. Due to its speed and high level of
accuracy, it has become an indispensable tool for bioscience research. In this
workshop participants will learn about the theoretical background of docking
and practical execution steps (basic to advanced) using the popular tool
Autodock Vina during the hands-on sessions.
