About the workshop: The workshop is designed to bring together bioinformaticians and software developers for an intensive, week-long collaboration. Participants will focus on tackling a well-defined problem within one of the broad thematic areas, contributing their expertise to drive meaningful solutions and innovations.

Workshop Venue: CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology CN- 06, CN Block, Sector V, Bidhannagar, Kolkata-700091, West Bengal.

Eligibility & Training:  Early-career scientists, Ph.D. scholars, and Master’s students in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or information technology are encouraged to apply. The workshop will provide hands-on training and project work using real-time sequencing data. Selection Criteria  Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in coding and bioinformatics.

Guidelines: 

Session Hours: 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM 

Meals: Lunch will be provided each day of the workshop 
Logistics: Transportation and accommodation are not included Requirements: Participants must bring their own laptop 
Certification: A certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of the project 

Format: Following the training sessions, participants will work on a defined problem within one of the broad thematic categories, aligned with their area of expertise

Selection Process:  Candidates will be chosen based on their research experience and practical skills. For applicants who are not currently employed or affiliated with an organization, participation will depend on a demonstrated proficiency that convinces the selection committee of their suitability. Documentation Requirement  All selected candidates must provide a permission or recommendation letter from their academic advisor or employer at their previous institution, endorsing their participation in the workshop.

About the Institute: The Institute was established in 1935 as the first non-official centre in India for biomedical research and was included within the aegis of CSIR in 1956. CSIR-IICB today is engaged in research on diseases of national importance and biological problems of global interest, employing sophisticated state-of-the-art technology in keeping with the rapid and unprecedented momentum that life science research has gained globally over the last 50 years. The scientific staff has expertise in a variety of areas including chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology,  molecular biology,  neurobiology and immunology, which promotes productive interdisciplinary interaction.

About the workshop: The DBT-sponsored projects — Bioinformatics Centre, National Networking Project, and Shorea robusta initiative — are jointly organizing a workshop to train early-career scientists and Ph. D students in bioinformatics and genome annotation. 

Course Content: Hands-on training on Unix, Linux, bash scripting. Programming in R and Python. Plotting bioinformatics data using R and ggplot. Developing machine learning models using DNA and protein sequence data. Introduction to sequencing, data analysis, variant calling, and transcription quantification and workflow development. Analysis of Tree genome data. Pathway mapping and assigning functional annotation.
